A Houston County jury convicted a Columbia man on Thursday of repeatedly molesting a girl over a six-to-eight-year period.

Assistant Houston County District Attorney Kristen Shields said the jury found 40-year-old Todd Whitehead guilty of multiple felony sexual assault charges, which included rape, sex abuse and incest.

Shields said sheriff’s deputies took Whitehead into custody after the guilty verdict. He’d previously been released on bail.

Tuscaloosa police officers arrested two men on rape charges involving the same 14-year-old girl they allegedly met online.

Investigators say the men met the 14-year-old girl on a social media website called “Tagged,” a site where people can exchange pictures and messages. The teen’s mother found messages from older men to her daughter and called police on Dec. 31, 2012.

A Hartford man faces more than a dozen child pornography charges after Geneva County Sheriff’s investigators arrested him late last week.

Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Helms said investigators arrested Christopher Wade Turner, 39, and charged him with 14 felony counts of possession child pornography.

Michel, 44, was a long-time science teacher at Rehobeth High School. He was sentenced to 36 years in prison Wednesday by Circuit Judge Butch Binford. Michel will serve three eight-year sentences for having sex with a student and four three-year sentences for the possession of porn material convictions. All sentences will run consecutively, meaning the prison term for each count will not begin until the expiration of the previous count. Binford also denied any probation request and assessed fines and penalties totaling around $6,000.

“This is the most horrible thing anybody could possibly go through,” the mother said, adding that her children still attend school at Rehobeth. “They will suffer daily.”

Two Wiregrass men recently pleaded guilty to unrelated federal child porn-related charges.

In the first case, Joseph Kyle Edberg, who was originally charged with a 12-count felony indictment involving the receiving of child pornography and the possession of child pornography, pleaded guilty earlier this week to a reduced charge of a single felony count of possessing child pornography.

Edberg, who will be sentenced at a later date, faces not more than 10 years in prison and a fine of not more than $250,000. Federal court records show Edberg remains released on bail until his sentencing hearing.

It is believed that Adams soon took advantage of peoples’ generosity by using cash donations – solicited under the guise of treating sick animals – to pay for personal items such as electric bills and groceries for the family.

Dean said people gave more than $25,000, and the number could climb as the investigation continues.

Dean said at one point, Adams claimed to have been a victim of a burglary where all the animal supplies were stolen from a local storage facility.

“That claim was completely false,” he said.

Local authorities recently arrested two Wiregrass men on electronic solicitation and traveling to meet a child for sex charges as a result of separate investigations.

Court records show an Enterprise man faces four felony charges after investigators with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office arrested him on Tuesday. Investigators charged Roberto Paiz Bernaba, 30, of Dixie Drive, with traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, electronic solicitation of a child for an unlawful sex act, second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy.
