David Wayne Rodrigue, 45, of Ariton, was arrested Thursday and charged with sexual abuse first degree and sodomy first degree.

In April, Matthew Lane Durham volunteered his time at a children’s home in Nairobi, Kenya, which recruited people from Oklahoma churches to provide food, housing and clothes to neglected kids in the African nation.
But federal prosecutors accuse the 19-year-old Edmond, Oklahoma, resident of performing sexual acts on as many as 10 children during his time there.

An Opp man is back in jail on a bond of more than $2 million after being indicted by a grand jury on charges ranging from rape and sodomy to sexual abuse of a child.
Jerry Wayne Scofield, 59, of Opp, was taken into custody by Covington County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Paige Spivey Monday. Scofield was originally jailed in December, after an unrelated case revealed he allegedly sexually abused a female relative for years. Scofield’s December arrest came after a months-long investigation, CCSO officials said at the time.

An Ozark woman received four years of probation Thursday for the unlawful solicitation of a child for sex.
Heather Fulford Bryant, 32, was found guilty last month of soliciting who she believed was a teenage girl for sex during an undercover operation run by the Daleville Police Department.

Pike County Circuit Court Judge Shannon Clark sentenced a man indicted for eight sex offenses involving a child to life in prison plus 10 years this week.
Earlier this month, Terry Cordell Davie, 46, of Goshen, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree assault of a minor including rape. The plea was part of a blind agreement. The district attorney’s office agreed to dismiss six counts in exchange for Davie’s guilty plea in the other two. All eight of the counts involved the same victim.

Carl Philip Herold could be looking for a new lawyer in his multi-count child sex abuse case after his attorney filed notice seeking to leave the case.
Madison County Circuit Judge Chris Comer has set a hearing for Thursday on the issue.
Herold’s Birmingham-based attorney Steven Eversole was hired after Herold’s November arrest.
Eversole filed notice seeking to withdraw as Herold’s attorney and noted that his appearance was only for district court — the case is now in circuit court. The filing argues he has fulfilled his contractual obligations to Herold.

Investigators with the Hartford Police Department arrested Graue on May 2, and charged him with felony traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and felony electronic solicitation of a child.
Hartford Police Chief Annie Ward told the Eagle shortly after Graue’s arrest that the charges allegedly involved his arranging to meet someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl through an online dating site. The arrest was made through an ongoing undercover investigation handled by the Hartford Police Department and the Perverted Justice Foundation.
“Since it was an internet-related sex charge, he was prohibited from having internet in his home or having a smart phone,” Smith said.
Smith said his client’s wife lives in Missouri, and due to her suffering from breast cancer and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) he’d found himself having to take care of her.
“He was forced to go there to help care for his wife after (the) caregivers quit,” Smith said. “He was just visiting and he was basically just there for a limited time to find a caregiver for his wife.”

One new article link has been added to our Related News page. AL.com published an article titled State Supreme Court reinstates Mobile man’s child rape conviction, life prison sentence.
The Alabama Supreme Court on Friday reversed an appeals court decision and reinstated the conviction and life sentence of a man found guilty of raping a young relative.
The decision, which came on an 8-1 vote, means that Rickey Cleston Woods, 54, will resume a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.

Huntsville police arrested the volunteer head coach of the Guntersville High School girls soccer team on child sexual abuse and human trafficking charges Friday. A 28-year-old woman was also arrested in connection to the investigation.
David Jacobs Barrow, 57, is charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 and first-degree human trafficking. He was booked into the Madison County Jail just before 3:30 p.m.
