Approximately 431 teachers were arrested in the southeast from 2007 to 2011 for sexual misconduct according to a study in the “Journal of Childhood Sexual Abuse”.

Here in Alabama, nearly 70 teachers have been accused of inappropriate actions with a student in the last two years with more than half of those in the last ten months.

Last month, a Selma teacher, LaTangela Wiliams, pleaded guilty to having sex with students. Anthony Ray Staten Jr., a substitute teacher at Alabama Christian Academy, was charged with having sexual contact with a student. Then a Southlawn Middle School teacher was charged with indecent exposure.

The most recent case came Friday when police charged a north Alabama soccer coach, David Jacobs Barrow, with sexual abuse and Human Trafficking.

Seven local sex offenders are back behind bars after being caught in violation of adult sex offender registration laws.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said the sting was the result of joint efforts between his office, Troy Police Department, the Alabama Bureau of Investigations and U.S. Marshals Service.

“The team verified that the registered sex offenders were living in compliance,” said Thomas. “We checked all 89 sex offenders’ residences and got seven warrants issued.”

A Florence couple was indicted last week on more than 100 charges related to exploiting a minor child in their custody to produce child pornography.

The charges against Patricia Allana Ayers, 34, and her husband, Matthew David Ayers, 42, were outlined in a 107-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Birmingham.

Investigators found the couple in possession of 53 pornographic images of the child produced between the summer of 2010 and January 2013.

Dothan Police Cpl. Tim Mullis, the department’s internet crimes against children investigator, said both 31-year-old Samantha Victoria Bryant and her boyfriend Ellison Ray Dooling used nicknames involving the word “Woo” in an online internet forum.

The 23-year-old lives with ectodermal dysplasias, a rare condition that causes reduced ability to sweat, missing teeth and fine, sparse hair, according to the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias. At least one in 5,000-10,000 babies are born with the condition.

Adam and Heather Schreck told Fox 19 that they woke up at midnight to the sounds of a man yelling at their daughter, Emma, and were surprised to find their Internet-enabled baby monitor moving — even though they were not the ones moving it.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. In August, Marc Gilbert of Houston, Texas, told ABC station KTRK that he heard a man yelling “Wake up, Allyson, you little (expletive),” through a baby monitor to his two-year-old daughter, whose name was spelled out on the wall. (It turns out that the baby could not hear the stranger; she was deaf and her cochlear implants were turned off).

A deeply divided Supreme Court set limits Wednesday to how much monetary compensation child victims of online pornography may reap from those who viewed their images.

The 5-4 decision set aside a $3.4 million judgement awarded to a woman whose pictures of her being raped as a child were widely circulated online.

The court ruled that Doyle Randall Paroline, a Texas man who was prosecuted in the case, does not have to pay that large sum, which is the total amount of damages the victim’s lawyers say she deserved.

Witnesses told deputies that a 14-year-old was walking home with friends when he confronted the 16-year-old about a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“He indicated to his father that the 14-year-old tried to approach him at school to confront him regarding the Facebook post,” said Twis Lizasuain of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. “He ignored him the majority of the day, when he was walking home, that’s when the 14-year-old confronted him.”
