Mental health professionals say it’s such a new problem you could even be in a digitally abusive relationship and not realize it.

​The constant calls, the threatening texts, brittny says her ex-boyfriend’s electronic communication was relentless.

“I was always fearful of not answering my phone when he called and not responding to his text messages.”

After months of high-tech harassment, brittny says she realized she was a victim of “digital domestic abuse” a new problem Psychiatrist Gail Saltz says is growing.

A woman is behind bars after allegedly pretending to be an East Texas high school student.

Charity Anne Johnson, 31, was enrolled at New Life Christian School in Longview as a sophomore. Longview police say Johnson was arrested Tuesday at an apartment in the 400 block of S. High Street. Residents told officers they had reason to believe she was lying about her age and wanted assistance in making her leave.

Officer Debra Stiles said Johnson gave officers the name “Charite Stevens” and a birth date of November 24, 1997. This is the information Johnson used to enroll at New Life Christian School.

A spokesperson for the school said Johnson was brought in to enroll with a person who was her guardian. She enrolled in the school, giving a date of birth that indicated she was 15. On Tuesday, staff at the school discovered her identification was fake. She had been a student there since October 2013.

Michael Lee Graue, 58, is charged with electronic solicitation of a child. He was arrested Friday in the parking lot of Mom’s Kitchen in the town of Hartford.

Approximately 431 teachers were arrested in the southeast from 2007 to 2011 for sexual misconduct according to a study in the “Journal of Childhood Sexual Abuse”.

Here in Alabama, nearly 70 teachers have been accused of inappropriate actions with a student in the last two years with more than half of those in the last ten months.

Last month, a Selma teacher, LaTangela Wiliams, pleaded guilty to having sex with students. Anthony Ray Staten Jr., a substitute teacher at Alabama Christian Academy, was charged with having sexual contact with a student. Then a Southlawn Middle School teacher was charged with indecent exposure.

The most recent case came Friday when police charged a north Alabama soccer coach, David Jacobs Barrow, with sexual abuse and Human Trafficking.

Stephen Conrad was arrested in April 2013 on more than 100 counts of child sex abuse charges, but those counts were ultimately dropped by the D.A.’s Office after the now former Tallassee Assistant Police Chief was accused of evidence tampering and witness intimidation.

According to the investigator who testified about the case, Brandy Conrad admitted to abusing children and being present while child abuse was taking place. The details of the testimony are graphic and WSFA 12 News has made the decision not to report details regarding them.

Staten was a permanent substitute teacher for two years at ACA, and also worked with the football team as an assistant. He was also an alumni of the school.

Sewell says this has been difficult for the ACA family, “Just because of having known him, we certainly were surprised”, but calls this an isolated incident, based on the information gathered by the administration. School officials are currently cooperating with investigators and say they know very little about the evidence gathered at this point.

Child Protect is also participating in this investigation, carrying out the forensic interview with the alleged victim. According to the agency, preliminary evidence suggests Staten was the student’s substitute teacher.

Prison inmates continue to get caught with cell phones. Not only are they getting their hands on phones, they’re using them to post to social media sites.

Gregory Bigham, of Montgomery, shares pictures and status updates with friends on Facebook, posing in his prison jumpsuit and showing off his tattoos. In a post from Wednesday, he captioned a photo: “Another day in the joint IM still standing one day at a time.”

The snapshot and several others were listed as mobile uploads. He has posted on and off since 2011.

“Her intentions were skipping class and she said she skipped with one of the young men, but when she got to the area where he took her to, three other boys were there,” said the aunt who did not want to be identified.
