A former Florida resident accused of running a sex tourism business on Craigslist was arrested in Huntsville. Federal agents picked up 50-year-old Patrick Minga at a home on Steeplechase Drive.

Investigators said they spotted an ad by Minga that said he would arrange lodging, transportation, meals, and unlimited access to girls under the age of 13 in Ecuador and Colombia for a price.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says a Facebook post appears to have sparked a confrontation between two men that ended in shots fired.

Eric Woodson runs a neighborhood watch group on Facebook for the Lee County area in Alabama.

Zachary Belitz, 22, told investigators he went over to Woodson’s home along Lee Rd. 2105 in order to throw a brick at his home, because he was angry at a post Woodson made on the group’s page. The post never mentioned Belitz by name, but referred to a man as “the Walmart Phenix City pervert” and a “Wal-wanker”, while calling his wife an idiot for marrying him.

A Utah truck driver kept sex slaves in his semitrailer for months at a time while he traveled the country, filing down their teeth, forcing them to alter their appearance and beating them until they nearly passed out, authorities said.

Timothy Jay Vafeades, 54, made an initial appearance Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Fargo, N.D., and will now be transferred to Utah for further proceedings.

The charges against him include kidnapping, transportation for illegal sexual activity, and possession of child pornography, and could bring a life sentence if he is convicted. His public defender, Richard Henderson, could not be reached for comment.

Authorities say Stephens met the girl after talking to her through an online social network. He hitchhiked to Alabama to meet her.

“We are looking at the mistakes we made,” Daniel Grecu, explained. “You need to know who they are talking to on Facebook, what their passwords are. That’s a must as parents. If you give them freedom now, you can put them in harms way, that’s obvious now,” Grecu added.

UPDATE: Columbus Police have made an arrest.  Gregory Wilson was taken to jail Saturday evening.  He will be in Recorder’s Court Monday 2-10-14 at 2 p.m.

Columbus Police are looking for a man who followed an underage girl into the ladies room of a fast food restaurant and used his cell phone to record her in the stall.

“When I looked down, he was under the stall. I said, ‘what are you doing?’, and right after that, he got out,” said Madison Plemons, 17.

Madison Plemons and her boyfriend just left a Cottonmouths game at the Civic Center last Sunday and stopped by the Burger King in the 1300 block of Veterans Parkway for something to eat on their way home.

The boyfriend in the Dallas County animal abuse case has been sentenced with jail time and community service after being accused of hanging a puppy from the ceiling and photographing it.

23-year-old Andrew Parish, who appeared in court Tuesday morning, has been sentenced to 6 months in jail, 24 months probation and 100 hours of community service. Parish’s girlfriend 26-year-old Caroline Dunnam will not face any charges because Parish admitted to being the one who committed the abuse.

Previously the couple voluntarily relinquished their ownership rights to the puppy, now known as “Timmy” during a Jan. 21 court hearing. Authorities were alerted to the animal abuse case after a photo was posted on Facebook that led them to the dog’s owners.

He’s one of the most notorious criminal suspects in Elmore County. Now most of the 105 counts against defendant Stephen Conrad, who had been indicted on rape, sodomy and child sex abuse counts, won’t hold up in court.

In May, Tallassee Police Chief Jimmy Rogers called the investigation surrounding Conrad “unprecedented for Elmore County,” as new witnesses and victims came forward almost daily following the initial arrest.

According to Elmore County District Attorney Randall Houston, the same could now be said for the investigation.

“It’s sickening. We prepared a 105 count indictment. Now we have to dismiss 100 of those counts,” Houston said.

Houston learned Nov. 15 only five of the counts were backed up with solid evidence during a meeting with ABI.
