Facebook this week will begin turning on secure browsing be default for its millions of users in North America. The change will make HTTPS the default connection option for all Facebook sessions for those users, a shift that gives them a good baseline level of security and will help prevent some common attacks.
Facebook users have had the option of turning on HTTPS since early 2011 when the company reacted to attention surrounding the Firesheep attacks. However, the technology was not enabled by default and users have had to in and manually make the change in order to get the better protection of HTTPS.
Now, users will have to manually turn HTTPS off if they don’t want it, a distinction that is a major change, especially for Facebook’s massive user base, which has become a major target for attackers.

Houston County Sheriff’s investigators recently arrested a 48-year-old man on multiple child pornography-related charges.
Sheriff’s Capt. Antonio Gonzalez said investigators arrested Franklin Lee Whaples, of Melrose Lane, on Friday, and charged him with three felony counts of the possession of child pornography and felony transmitting obscene matter to a child using a computer.

Self-proclaimed “Apostle” Luis “Tito” Morales, described by authorities as a serial sexual predator who told girls he wanted to “break” them in order for them to become prophets his ministry, was convicted of child-sex trafficking charges Monday.
After hearing closing arguments and deliberating for less than three hours, an Orlando federal jury found Morales, who founded En Fuego for Jesus in his Ormond Beach home, guilty of six charges.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) – Police have confirmed a Montgomery man has been arrested on a charge relating to sex abuse of a child under the age of 12.
According to the Montgomery Police Department, 38-year-old Andrew Bartels was arrested on October 26 and charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

An Ozark man charged with molesting an 11-year-old girl last year pleaded guilty to other charges relating to child pornography on Tuesday, while a man in an unrelated case initially charged with attempted murder pleaded guilty to multiple other charges.
James Raymond Troxell, 33, of Brandi Lane in Ozark, pleaded guilty to two counts of child pornography and was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison. Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams said Troxell is also expected to register as a sex offender.

WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – The vast majority of homemade pornography and private images on personal computers ends up on public websites called “parasites.”
Eighty-eight percent of homemade pornography, including videos and still images, finds its way onto porn sites, often without the owners’ knowledge, a new study from Britain’s Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has found.
The study analyzed more than 12,000 sexually explicit images uploaded by young people and found that the great majority of images had been stolen and published to what the organization calls, “parasite” websites.
